Data center and enterprise networking expert Cliff Grossner joined Infonetics (now IHS) in July 2013, bringing with him more than 25 years of experience in technology and market analysis, corporate and product strategy, product management and marketing, and scientific research.

Prior to joining Infonetics, Cliff headed strategic marketing at Alcatel-Lucent’s Enterprise Network Business Unit, where he drove the vision and messaging for the enterprise networking business. He also led the launch and marketing of the award-winning Enterprise Data Center Switching Solution, and was responsible for commercializing technology from Bell Labs into new products.

Previously, Cliff held a range of senior positions in the information and communications technology industries, including tenures at Bell Labs, Sesame Networks, NewStep Networks, and Nortel. He has also worked as a research scientist and faculty lecturer at McGill and Concordia universities, specializing in artificial intelligence, distributed computing, and computer architecture.

As Research Director, Data Center, Cloud and SDN, Cliff now leads IHS’s data center, cloud computing, and data center and enterprise LAN SDN coverage, authoring quarterly market share and forecast reports, surveys, and opinion pieces on data center networks (DCN), storage area networks (SAN), off premises cloud services, and software defined networks (SDN).

Specifically, he tracks Ethernet switching, WAN optimization, and application delivery control (ADC) equipment; Fibre Channel switching and converged data center networking including Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) and converged network adapters (CNAs); off-premises cloud services including infrastructure as a service (IaaS), cloud as a service (CaaS), platform as a service (PaaS), and software as a service (SaaS); and SDN-capable (in-use and not in-use for SDN) physical and virtual switching, bare metal switching, SDN controllers and orchestration software, and SDN capable applications.

A thought leader, Cliff is frequently quoted in leading publications including Light Reading, FierceTelecom, eWeek, Network Computing, and Lightwave Online. He is also a frequent expert judge for industry and technology innovation awards and an invited speaker for events such as Cloud Connect, SDN World Congress, and the Network Intelligence Awards.

Cliff has a Ph.D. from McGill University and an M.Sc. in Computer Science from Concordia University, both in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He holds numerous patents in the areas of computer networking, network embedded security, and telecommunications applications.
