Drawing on over 20 years as a telecommunications industry analyst, professional journalist, and marketing executive, Shira Levine is one of the most widely recognized experts in the fast-changing telecom software space.
Shira joined Infonetics (now IHS) in 2009 and now leads its coverage of service enablement and subscriber intelligence technologies, authoring numerous market share and forecast reports, surveys, and opinion pieces on policy management, service delivery platforms (SDPs), subscriber data management (SDM), convergent charging, and deep packet inspection (DPI).
In addition to deepening IHS’s coverage of these increasingly important areas, Shira is expanding it to include emerging topics such as big data and analytics, the virtualization of IT and network environments, the changing service delivery infrastructure, new service models (SaaS, hosted services, third-party providers), and new ways for service providers to better leverage their competitive advantages for profit.
As a consultant to startups, service providers, vendors, and the investment community, Shira helps clients identify new market opportunities, provides due diligence, and advises on positioning, product development, business plans, and M&A activity.
An influential thought leader, Shira is regularly quoted in industry publications, including Business Week, Billing World, Fierce Wireless, Converge! Network Digest, and RCR Wireless. She also chairs and speaks at vendor events and tradeshows around the globe, including Mobile World Congress, SDP Global Summit, Broadband Traffic Management, and Management World.
Prior to Infonetics, Shira was a marketing manager with the TeleManagement Forum. As a Senior Analyst in IDC's Next-Generation OSS and Billing Program, she expanded the firm’s coverage and initiated SDP and telecom analytics market reporting, and as a senior research analyst with Stratecast's OSS Competitive Strategies practice, she covered the OSS/BSS market and service providers' OSS strategies and requirements. Before becoming an analyst, Shira was Executive Editor of America's Network magazine, covering OSS/BSS, network and service management, provisioning, customer care, and billing. She was also the Editor of Telecom Investor and a senior editor at Telephony magazine, where she covered regulatory events, including the pivotal Telecommunications Reform Act of 1996.
Shira holds a BA in Classics from Amherst College and an MSJ from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University. She is based out of IHS’s Cambridge, Massachusetts, office.
