CMTS revenue down 9% in 2Q07, but forecast to grow to $1.2B in 2010

CAMPBELL, California, October 8, 2007—Following a 12% decrease in 1Q07, the cable modem termination systems market fell 9% to $232 million in 2Q07, reports Infonetics Research in its quarterly CMTS Hardware and Subscribers report.

The CMTS market is expected to pick up and grow annually in the single to low double digits through 2010, when it will reach $1.2 billion.

“Competitive pricing in North America and a slight drop in upstream port shipments contributed to the revenue decline this quarter in the CMTS hardware market. But downstream ports were up significantly, as more wideband-capable line cards shipped. Wideband and DOCSIS 3.0 will help MSOs compete with telcos in North America, and MSOs will continue to build on their triple play head start. This will keep investments in upstream and downstream ports on existing CMTS equipment and new M-CMTS equipment growing at least through 2010,” said Jeff Heynen, directing analyst for broadband and IPTV at Infonetics Research.
