CMTS revenue tops $1B for the first time; Cisco revenue up $128M in 2006

CAMPBELL, California, February 26, 2007—For the first time ever, worldwide CMTS manufacturer revenue passed $1 billion, up 39% from 2005, when revenue reached its previous high of $736 million, according to Infonetics Research’s latest CMTS Hardware & Subscribersreport.

All 4 major players in the market—Arris, BigBand, Cisco, and Motorola—appreciably increased revenue and port shipments in 2006.

“CMTS ports were up significantly in the fourth quarter and for the year, due to cable operators increasing their digital voice subscribers and expanding their reach before the telcos go after them with fiber to the home deployments. The initial introduction of wideband capabilities helped as well. With more services, more subscribers, and more territory to cover, we expect single- to double-digit growth for both CMTS ports and revenue every year through at least 2010, despite the intense competition and MSO pressure on CMTS vendors, which is inhibiting revenue growth a bit,” said Jeff Heynen, directing analyst for broadband and IPTV at Infonetics Research.

CMTS Market Highlights

  • Worldwide CMTS port shipments jumped 51% between 2005 and 2006

  • Cisco increased their CMTS revenue 54% between 2005 and 2006, up $128 million to $529 million, accounting for more than half the worldwide market
  • Arris made significant gains on Cisco’s CMTS port and revenue share in North America and Asia Pacific in 4Q06
