Campbell, CALIFORNIA, March 3, 2009—Communications market research firm Infonetics Research recently released the fourth quarter (4Q08) edition of its IMS Equipment and Subscribers report. Highlights from the market research report follow.
“IMS deployments are growing, led largely by European operators. With over 100 service providers worldwide having chosen their IMS vendors, less than half are fully deployed with live traffic. The move to turn-up the remaining deployments, in addition to new deployments, will help fuel the sales for IMS network equipment. Mobile operator migration to IP and adoption of RCS will drive the deployments for IMS during the next four to five years.”
Diane Myers, Directing Analyst - Service Provider VoIP and IMS - Infonetics Research
REPORT HIGHLIGHTS
- Worldwide sales of IMS (IP multimedia subsystem) equipment, including HSS (home subscriber servers) and CSCF servers, nearly doubled in 2008 over 2007, up 94%
- Fixed-line VoIP remains the primary application deployed over IMS
- Long-term growth of IMS-based subscribers will be fueled by the availability of integrated, rich media services
- Rich Communication Services (RCS) will be an important catalyst that shifts the IMS market from its current fixed-line VoIP-based focus to mobile networks, with the goal of delivering integrated communications with standardized devices
- Unlike many other markets during the worldwide economic crisis, the IMS equipment market is expected to grow in 2009 and 2010
- While IMS will never completely replace standalone VoIP networks, the IMS equipment market is expected to grow swiftly through 2013, when it will top $2.3 billion
- Infonetics’ IMS Deployment Tracker shows Ericsson, Alcatel-Lucent, Nokia Siemens, NEC, and Huawei leading the way with core IMS equipment
REPORT SYNOPSIS
Infonetics’ quarterly IMS report provides worldwide and regional market size, forecasts through 2013, and analysis of core IMS equipment, including HSS and CSCF servers, the split between fixed and mobile networks, and of IMS-based subscribers (residential/SOHO and business). The IMS report will begin tracking vendor market share in the latter half of 2009. In the meantime, the report includes an IMS Deployment Tracker that tracks carrier deployments by vendor, including Acme Packet, Alcatel-Lucent, Blueslice, BroadSoft, Ericsson, Huawei, NEC, Nokia Siemens, and Samsung.
