Most companies deploying NAC say the economy will not derail their 2009 spending plans

Campbell, CALIFORNIA, June 25, 2009—Market research firm Infonetics Research released User Plans for Network Access Control: North America, an annual survey of purchase decision makers at medium and large organizations using NAC now or by 2010. Study highlights follow.

ANALYST NOTE

“We asked our respondents if the current global economic climate was forcing them to cut NAC spending in 2009 and 2010. Close to 60% said no, a decent figure considering how severely many IT markets have been hit by the recession. There is a fundamental need to protect confidential information and contain security threats, and these drivers do not disappear in an uncertain economy.”

NAC USER PLANS HIGHLIGHTS

  • Protecting wireless networks is a key NAC deployment driver for nearly two-thirds of respondents
  • Roughly 70% of respondents say it is critical that their NAC solution be 802.1x compatible
  • Significant turnover in early NAC deployments is expected, with many large organizations that made NAC investments in 2007 already looking to replace initial deployments
  • Medium and large organizations participating in Infonetics’ survey rated 5 NAC vendors on 8 criteria: technology, product roadmap, security, management, value, pricing, financial stability, and service and support
    • Cisco ranks highest overall on the resulting vendor scorecard, but they are matched very closely by a variety of vendors for different criteria, including Microsoft, Juniper, and Symantec

REPORT SYNOPSIS

Infonetics’ User Plans for Network Access Control study was designed by Infonetics Research, product manufacturers, and service providers to determine the product requirements and implementation plans of organizations deploying NAC in the US and Canada through March 2011.

The study features a NAC manufacturer scorecard with end-user ratings of 5 NAC manufacturers (Cisco, Juniper, McAfee, Microsoft, Symantec), and covers topics such as NAC deployment drivers and barriers, NAC infrastructure, deployment plans and strategies, integration of NAC and existing security infrastructure, critical product features, brand awareness, and the NAC purchase process.
