CAMPBELL, CALIFORNIA, May 13, 2010—Market research firm Infonetics Research (http://twitter.com/infonetics) released the first edition of its 2010 biannual NAC Enforcement Appliances report, which tracks network access control enforcement appliances priced below and above $30,000.
ANALYST NOTE
“The first half of 2009 saw budget cuts and a lack of budget visibility overall, and though many organizations started solidifying budgets in the second half of the year, most network access control purchases have a long sales cycle, so many purchases were pushed out 12 to 24 months. We expect the NAC market to bounce back in 2010,” explains Jeff Wilson, principal analyst for security at Infonetics Research.
MARKET HIGHLIGHTS
- Worldwide NAC enforcement appliance revenue decreased 35% in 2009 from its high point in 2008 ($260.7 million to $170.9 million)
- However, the market is trending back upward, jumping 10% between the third and fourth quarters of 2009
- Cisco System’s resurgence in the second half of 2009, particularly their 20% jump in overall security revenue in 4Q09, helped get the NAC market back to growth
- The long-term drivers for deploying NAC technology remain:
- Regulation and compliance
- Explosive growth in the number, variety, and volume of threats
- Security investment as a cost-saving measure
- Service provider spending on security
- Purchase interest is shifting away from discrete standalone NAC solutions to integrated NAC functionality in infrastructure and software
