Campbell, CALIFORNIA, July 10, 2012—Market research firm Infonetics Research published its new Application Control Drivers, Spending, and Vendor Leadership: North American Enterprise Survey, for which medium and large organizations were surveyed to assess their plans and to analyze trends in the application control market, including perceived vendor strengths and weaknesses.
ANALYST NOTE
"The application control market is new to mainstream buyers, and many of them are sorting through deployment models, solution types, and the broad range of vendors coming at them with application control solutions," explains Jeff Wilson, principal analyst for security at Infonetics Research. "Enterprises we interviewed for our application control survey are looking for solutions that support legacy client servers, newer web-based applications, and mobile applications, and they're seeking integrated security platforms that can help them cover all those applications, starting with their existing firewall and intrusion prevention system (IPS) solutions."
APPLICATION CONTROL SURVEY HIGHLIGHTS
- The top 2 drivers for investing in application control solutions: protect against data theft and financial loss, and enforce application usage policies
- The #1 application that survey respondents plan to monitor and control is e-mail, followed by real-time communications applications like Skype and Facetime
- Enterprises rated Cisco highest in every leadership criterion (technology, product roadmap, security, etc.), with McAfee close behind
SURVEY SYNOPSIS
Infonetics' June 2012 20-page Application Control Drivers, Spending, and Vendor Leadership survey is based on interviews with knowledgeable IT purchase-decision makers at 108 enterprise organizations in the US and Canada that have deployed application control solutions and have 101 or more employees (just over half of the respondents have more than 1,000 employees). The report includes analysis of end-user responses to questions about application control purchase drivers and barriers, applications, spending plans, product types, deployment plans, and vendors.
The survey features respondent ratings of 8 application control solution vendors: Check Point, Cisco, HP, Juniper, McAfee, Palo Alto Networks, SonicWALL, and WatchGuard, based on 8 criteria: technology, product roadmap, security, management, price-to-performance ratio, pricing, financial stability, and service and support. Vendors named in additional vendor-related questions in the survey include Barracuda, Blue Coat, Fortinet, IBM, Microsoft, Stonesoft, Symantec, Websense, and zScaler.
